4 – Cool off in the mountains

If you don’t fancy melting like an ice cream in the sun, or finding yourself on the boiling sands of a crowded beach in July, the mountains are your option.

Just as sunny as the seaside, temperatures in the mountains drop a few degrees the higher you climb (around 2° every 300 metres). As long as you don’t stay too high up, where you could catch a chill, this feature offers you a cool night’s sleep. If you choose accommodation between 800 metres and 1,500 metres, you’re sure to enjoy mild days and naturally air-conditioned nights.

5 – Savour the crystal-clear waters of mountain lakes

Have you heard of Lac d’Allos? Or Lac Vert in Valmeinier? These turquoise jewels reflect the high peaks that surround them. A breathtaking and refreshing beauty for the more adventurous who dare to take an invigorating dip! In the valleys, there are swimming lakes where you can take a dip in water that is often over 20 degrees Celsius.

6 – Discover an intense and authentic heritage

Experience a descent from the mountain pastures, meet a clog-maker, stand speechless in front of the Vauban fortifications… The mountains are as famous for their architecture as for their craftsmen, who bear witness to a strong and well-preserved history.
