September, back to school, the days getting shorter, back to the office… Stop! Autumn can also bring its fair share of surprises, especially in the mountains. With cooler days and the colours that grace the peaks, it’s an ideal time for a relaxing and invigorating break in the mountains.
Here are a few ideas of what to do this autumn in our French resorts.
53 km of discoveries
#1 – The Hautes-Vosges green route
Why not take advantage of the milder autumn weather to explore the Hautes-Vosges in complete peace and quiet? Explore the gentle Vosges countryside around Saint Maurice sur Moselle on 2 wheels. A 53km greenway has been laid out to take full advantage of the natural surroundings and immerse yourself in the extensive forests of the Hautes-Vosges.
There’s also a cycle route to the resort of La Bresse, so get on your bikes!
Chamrousse – Isère
#2 – Admire the autumn colours at Panoramic Park
The leaves on the trees are starting to turn a little more orange, so it’s the perfect time to take a walk in the mountains. Take the Chamrousse gondola up to La Croix to discover the resort’s brand new Panoramic Park. At the top, you’ll find a pedestrian trail open all year round, 3 belvederes with panoramic views of the mountains and the Grenoble Valley, and a Himalayan footbridge over the Casserousse couloir.

Super Besse – Auvergne
#3 – Experience the thrill of tobogganing
In the Auvergne, in the Sancy massif, head for the resort of Super Besse to get on board the summer toboggan (accessible in autumn, of course!).

#6 – Learn to ski on wheels
Home of champion Martin Fourcade, Villard de Lans-Corrençon in Isère is the perfect place to try your hand at wheel-skiing. A new take on tarmac skiing, so you can enjoy it all year round! Equipped with skis and wheels, it’s off for a lap around the track to get your heart rate up. Once on the shooting range, hold your breath as you try to hit the targets with your rifle. #8 – Marvel at the Infinity Encounters
If you want to feast your eyes this autumn, come and observe the starry sky in Pralognan la Vanoise. The Rencontres de l’Infini will take you into the heart of the Milky Way for a moment to discover the different stars, planets and constellations that take their place above our heads every night. In Morzine, the Pointe Nyon chairlift will take you to the Pas de l’Aigle: a thrilling, contemplative activity.
