5 giant zip lines in the mountains

Have you always dreamed of flying? In the space of a few dozen seconds, it’s possible thanks to the giant zip lines that are springing up all over the resorts. Alone or with a partner, you’re off on a gliding descent along a cable, at speeds approaching or exceeding 100 kilometres per hour. Thrills guaranteed!

Hautes-Alpes

#1 – Orcières-Merlette

1,870 metres long, 155 m difference in height between the start and finish, a one minute thirty second descent and a cruising speed of 130 km/h! These are the features of the Orcières-Merlette zip line.

Harnessed and suspended from a harness, you move with your body horizontal and your head forward, up to 150 metres above the ground, and only fifteen metres from rocky bars! It’s one of the biggest zip lines in Europe.

Also accessible in winter.

Auvergne

#2 – Super Besse

Fantasticable, the giant 1,600-metre-long zip line at Super-Besse, offers a 240-metre difference in height between start and finish – the biggest in France.

Lying with your head forward as if in a hang-glider, you set off on a vertiginous flight over the resort (45 metres above the ground) lasting around 1 minute 20 seconds, peaking at 120 km/h.

This zip line is accessible both solo (from age 12) andin pairs (one adult + one child aged between 8 and 12, weighing at least 30 kilos, with the difference in weight between child and adult not exceeding 40 kilos).

Vosges

#3 – La Bresse

A breathtaking view over the valley at the start, a flight 50 metres above the ground, a top speed of 110 km/h as you skim over the fir trees. That’s the Fantasticable adventure at La Bresse. For just over a minute, you’ll feel like a bird of prey, and have the feeling of flying in total freedom.

Are you a little apprehensive at first? You can use a parachute to slow your descent and enjoy a relaxing ride through the air. Accessible to all aged 6 and over (from 20 to 130 kilos).

It’s an unusual experience! You can also take to the skies wearing a Virtual Reality mask to take the place of a falcon. The only one of its kind in France (€12 supplement).

Maritime Alps

#4 – La Colmiane

Located in the heart of the Mecantour National Park, the Colmiane resort offers not one, but two zip lines! With a total length of 2663m, two lines of 1879m and 784m allow you to fly over an exceptionally beautiful landscape, above the resort and its lakes.

Jura Mountains

#5 – Mijoux – Monts Jura

Double the fun at Mijoux! Yes, you can go down the steepest zip line in France as a duo, with 2 cables installed in parallel.

This almost 1 km-long zip line descends 313 m with a 37% gradient! Adrenalin-seekers will be in for a treat, as you can reach speeds of up to 70km/h with your legs dangling in the air.

Take the opportunity to admire the superb panorama from the start of the zip line at the Col de la Faucille.
