Family holidays: how to choose your resort?

In France, when you’re heading to the mountains with your family, there’s one key thing to look out for: the Famille Plus label! All mountain resorts with this label aim to offer families a tailored, high-quality welcome. If you’re planning a family holiday this winter, we’ve got all the tips you need to choose your ideal resort.

Accommodation: look out for certified establishments

The Famille Plus certification isn’t just for holiday resorts; it’s also awarded directly to accommodation providers. It’s a quick and easy way to ensure that your chosen accommodation is suitable for the whole family.

As well as the usual services, ‘Famille Plus’ certified accommodation provides equipment for children and a host of other benefits. Baby kits, high chairs, connecting rooms, games on loan and dedicated children’s areas: certified accommodation combines a warm welcome with high-quality service. These establishments also offer child-friendly activities (kids’ clubs, books suitable for all ages, outdoor games, etc.).

Choose one of the 42 ‘Famille Plus’-certified resorts and you and your children will be welcomed with open arms!

Restaurants: places that really take care of little ones

As we all know, it’s never a completely stress-free experience when you’re looking after young children at the table. And yet, just because you have children doesn’t mean you can’t treat yourselves to a lovely dinner at a restaurant!

Restaurants with the ‘Famille Plus’ label welcome you with their relaxed atmosphere, menus specially designed for children and prices tailored to family budgets. For example, if you have a fussy eater at home, you can sometimes opt for a half portion of the daily special or a set meal… at half price! You can also let the children try local specialities from a special menu. No more steak and chips at every meal! For the little ones, restaurants provide high chairs, booster seats and bottle warmers, as well as little games (cards, colouring books) to keep the children entertained whilst they wait for their meal.

Activities: where they’re sure to have fun

The mountains, the snow… what an incredible playground for your children! Learning to ski, playing in the snow and exploring nature… they’ll have an unforgettable time!
At Family Plus resorts, young and old alike can enjoy a range of activities that are both fun and active: toboggan runs, snowshoeing, dog sledding and plenty more adventures await!

  • Do your children love animals? Take them on a dog-sled ride or go ski-joëring. Pulled along by friendly animals, they’ll be able to enjoy the mountains and the unforgettable thrills they offer.
  • Are they bursting with energy? Why not spend an afternoon on the toboggan run! Thrills and laughter guaranteed! And for the little ones, some toboggan runs are specially designed for 2–6-year-olds.
  • For little foodies: some resorts also offer cookery workshops tailored for children. In a friendly atmosphere, your curious little one can learn the basics of cooking and prepare delicious recipes whilst being supervised by professionals.

So to choose the perfect activity, look out for those marked with the ‘Family Plus’ symbol to ensure it’s perfectly suited to your children!

Learning to ski

All certified mountain resorts offer beginners – whether children or adults – the chance to learn at their own pace in complete safety. You can therefore introduce your children to skiing as a family in a sheltered area for added peace of mind. These dedicated areas are equipped with ski lifts accessible via a beginner’s pass, with a reduced rate if you do not need to travel to higher altitudes within the ski area.

Thanks to “esf” schools, from the age of 3, your children can discover the joys of snow and skiing in the snow play area. They’ll be looked after in areas specially designed for little ones to get to know the snow and for older children up to the age of 6 to learn to ski. Then, from the age of 6, they can join group ski lessons (it’s strongly recommended to book in advance; you can come for a full day or half a day and make use of the childcare service).

Once your little one is more comfortable on their skis, take them to explore the fun-filled areaspopping up all over the resort, which add a bit of excitement and variety to the skiing experience. These areas are generally designed as themed discovery trails and can be explored on your own, independently or with the family.

Choosing a family-friendly resort therefore guarantees a ski area with zones tailored to ensure maximum fun on the slopes!

Tips

And what about the prices?

Offering rates tailored to children and adults alike is one of the six commitments of the Famille Plus scheme! The resorts therefore offer as many discounts and special rates for families as possible, so that holiday budgets don’t spiral out of control, even when the whole family is enjoying themselves!
